Editorial musings

Editor: Not just one issue discussed in Wednesday's Voice section of the Tracy Press invoked a personal reaction motivating this response. While I agree more closely with the vision of controlled growth put forth by the alternative mayoral candidate, the ethical stand conveyed in Larry Hite's letter is dead-on with my hope for the future of public discourse in our community, country and world.

The appearance of the words "sanctity" and "due process" in the same sentence of Scott Hurban's letter nearly blew my mind. Sanctity references holiness while due process refers to earthly endeavors.

Dave Hardesty's commentary on Term Limits, while ideal, fails to consider statistical realities that show that even in a Presidential election year, expectations of even 50% of voter turnout are rare, and even less in an off-year election. Furthermore, of those who do vote, how many base their decisions on name recognition and/or party affiliation rather than educating themselves on the issues, and on the stances of those issues by the candidates? It's not so much an issue of capability of the voter, as a lack of motivation and diligence. On the other hand, his suggestion of limiting campaign expenditures seems like a good idea.
