Editor: Once again, the actions of members of the Tracy Police Department may have created life-threatening situations in our neighborhood where none would have existed if the police were not there.
It was reported in yesterday’s Press that after tiring of chasing two escaped emus, police drew their loaded shotguns. If this action was taken anywhere on the streets within the Glenbriar Estates subdivision, it would be difficult to point a weapon, and not have someone’s home be in the line of fire.
Several years ago, three police cruisers raced through the streets of our neighborhood at high speed at elementary school dismissal time, in pursuit of persons wanted for a warrant. The presence in our neighborhood of the individuals named on the warrant did not create a life-threatening situation, but the actions of the police did.
Since that time, we have asked the police for help dealing with speeding neighbors – a situation that also creates a life-threatening situation, but the police could offer no help.
Frankly, if the judgment of members of our police force does not improve, I will continue to feel safer when large birds roam our neighborhood than when the police department arrives.
