Editor: In voting against AB 1988, Assemblywoman Barbara Matthews may have lost Dan Wells' respect (see Tuesday's "Eat Irradiated Crow" letter), but she has earned mine, and I will gladly join her in eating irradiated crow, or any other irradiated meat approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
One of our goals as educators is to foster a rational and realistic understanding of our world – especially when public misconceptions abound, such as in the area of nuclear science.
AB 1988 is irrational and alarmist, and would only reinforce the misconceptions. Kudos to Matthews for her vote against it. I encourage state Sen. Michael Machado to show the same support for good education, and vote against AB 1988.
