A New Hope?

EDITOR: The Bush Administration's push for an invasion of Iraq has me deeply concerned. Never before has this country instigated violence. Any attacks we have ever before made were a response to provocation.* The same argument cannot currently be made if the U.S were to invade Iraq at this time. Instead of being the shining light and the new hope for the world, we have become the aggressors. We are far more ominous and dominating to the rest of the world now than the Soviet Union was in its time - as there is no country that can hold us in check.

The likelihood of a chemical or biological response by Saddam Hussein is greater than the likelihood that such an attack would occur if Iraq were not invaded. Thus our leadership is prepared to put us in harm's way - and for what - a war on terror? I don't think that's the real reason. Do you?

President Bush and Dick Cheney have been politically motivated to act (or not act) in nearly everything they have done since (and before) entering office. Why should that behavior change? The economy is certainly not going to get Bush re-elected. Therefore, why not start a war? After all, how many wartime presidents have been unseated?

With Bush policy ravaging the environment, Cheney hawking to send young American sons and daughters to their death, and Ashcroft going off half-cocked stealing as many liberties from American citizens as he can, I would suggest that the true Axis of Evil is not Iraq, Iran and North Korea, but actually Dubya, Dick & Johnny.
