Safe for whom?

Editor: An article in Wednesday’s Tracy Press stated that a consultant (unnamed) has submitted a health report to the city on the comparison between the Antenna Farm and the Chrissman site for the development of a youth sports facility. The health report identified the Antenna Farm site as Less Than Significant with respect to human health risks.

What was not indicated in the Press article, however, was that the report also summarized that at the Antenna Farm:

  1. the cancer risk is nearly twice as high as that at the Chrissman site
  2. the acute hazard index is over 65 times as high as that at the Chrissman site
  3. the chronic hazard index is nearly 30 times as high as that at the Chrissman site

Sure doesn’t sound very safe. Certainly the Chrissman site is far less hazardous.

My question to the consultant is, "Would you let your child play there?"
