Do you smell something?

EDITOR: I applaud the solution regarding the Tracy Peaker Plant Project offered by Andy Bogetti in his letter to the Editor in "The Tracy Press," Wednesday, March 27, 2002. Given the prevailing wind patterns, it makes perfect sense to locate the plants south of the population, rather than east of it. Have you ever driven by the Tracy Biomass Plant on Shulte Road? It reeks! Included in GWF's million-dollar buyout offer of the City's opposition, was $40,000 to retrofit the Biomass Plant's diesel engines, which "would reduce more than 75 tons of pollutants from the site annually." 75 tons! My question to GWF is – why have you not done this already? Isn't it a bit late to try and con us into believing you truly wish to be a good neighbor?

The City of Tracy is not free and clear of this issue either. Instead of providing and/or endorsing a tax incentive for GWF to do the retrofitting of these engines, the City Council approved $16.3 million for a new Civic Center – including a shiny new City Hall. Guess where I'd rather my taxes went?
