A Letter to Fellow Mr. Thomas Sowell

Mr. Sowell:

I have frequently read or scanned your musings, or "Public Policy," as to which they are referred in the caption to your likeness appearing on the Tracy Press editorial page. I couldn't help noting the irony in your reference to political bias in the media in your recent 'best-sellers list', given your clear slant - and presence in the media.

In my opinion, it is a shame that an intellect such as yours fails to see the value of espousing a policy of compassion. You readily tout the evils of liberalism in stereo-typical fashion, failing to note that 'conservative' means resistant to change, while 'liberalism' would be more closely associated with reform. If you're happy with the status quo, sir, then you're not paying attention.

I am the founder of a small corporation, but I have not failed to recognize that one of the largest contributors to our society's decline is its widespread and overwhelming corporatization at the expense of the masses - especially in the face of the fact that a majority of the world's people are dying from starvation, disease or violence, no small number of which occur right here in this country I'm not your classic bleeding-heart liberal. I work hard and believe I'm deserving of compensation proportionate to my effort. But no one deserves suffering, poverty, mistreatment or neglect just so another can have luxury.

The worst part is, you sit high on your hill at Hoover, doling out your "policy," but you don't even offer an opportunity for reply. Your email address is not available nor is any other contact information. You offer you web address, but I've been there - and all over the Internet, looking for an address to which to send this. Your site doesn't even have a feedback form. What a wuss!

As you, I am not afraid to speak my mind, but unlike you, I'm not afraid to lay it out there either. I can be reached a multitude of ways. Try me. Who knows? Maybe a change of discourse from harping to dialog might do us all some good.
