Long time music education advocate, Dan Wells, has put his money where his mouth is, with his company’s offer to pay for any student enrolled in the Jefferson School District to attend the Tracy performance of the Stockton Symphony on March 20. Details can be found on the web site www.musicforjefferson.org.
Wells lobbied hard last year in an attempt to get the Jefferson School District to retain funding for its primary music program, but despite gaining popular support, the effort failed to convince the school board of the necessity for retention. Since then, Wells ran for and won a seat on the board. Despite his efforts as a board member having thus far recovered over a quarter-million dollars in budget oversights, it remains to be seen whether he can convince his colleagues to support restoring funding for the program.
When asked whether he was here to stay, Wells with a wink and a smile, replied in Dr. Galazkiewicz*-like fashion, "Yes I am."
