Editor: Wow! For elected officials to lose respect for one who maintains and voices a dissenting opinion is not only childish, it is unprofessional. I am proud of Irene Sundberg for her integrity to stick to her principals and vote her conscience in the face of ridicule by her fellow council members and the editorial board of the Tracy Press.
My children will never be allowed to play at a sports park built upon the antenna farm with three dangerous natural gas and oil pipelines running as close as 3½ feet from the playing surface, and three highly polluting industrial businesses using extremely hazardous materials right next door. Whether or not an environmental impact report shows that the antenna farm location 'could be a danger,' the potential danger is a certainty. The safety and wellbeing of my children will not be available to the Tracy City Council’s desire to play the odds.
If you must build a sports park on the antenna farm, let the adults play there, and put the children in the existing sports complex on west 11th street.
I would support bringing a college campus to Tracy, but not at the expense of the utmost level safety for our children.
Ms. Sundberg will continue to get my vote for standing up for my children while her colleagues choose not to do so.
Daniel Wells, Tracy
